Product Overview

A Low Volume Hull with Expedition-Grade Storage

The S16 LV gives the small to mid-size paddler a fully equipped touring kayak - 175 litres of storage, rudder standard, three hatches - without forcing a hull designed for a larger paddler.

The S16 LV is the touring hull Stellar designed around the smaller paddler.

Where most 16-foot boats are built for the average adult and then "manage" smaller paddlers, the LV starts from the opposite question: what does a 5' to 6' paddler actually need? The answer is a lower volume deck, a shorter 83.5 cm cockpit, and a hull that keeps its directional and secondary stability even when the paddler carries less body weight.

That efficiency-first approach is why it replaces the S15 LV as the better touring proposition: the hull gained carrying capacity for full camping loads while keeping the compact fit. Fully equipped as standard - rudder, three hatches, two bulkheads, bow deck pod, bottle-holder seat pad, SmartTrack footbrace and a recessed paddle lock bar - it arrives ready for the water, not as a bare shell.

For fleets, the S16 LV closes the gap every rental and retail lineup has: the paddler who is too small for the standard S16 but too serious for a recreational boat. As a carbon fiber kayak manufacturer and the authorized Stellar agent for South America and Asia, we stock and supply this hull wholesale - or build it in your brand's colors under an OEM program.

The Fit-First Difference

Why "Low Volume" Matters More Than a Few Centimetres

A hull that is too tall in the deck or too long in the cockpit makes every stroke work harder. Volume distribution - not just length and width - decides whether the boat fits.

Volume Is a Fit Specification, Not Just a Storage Number

Two boats can share the same length and look almost identical on paper, yet feel completely different on the water. The S16 LV lowers the deck and trims the cockpit opening to 83.5 cm, which changes where the paddler's legs, hips and torso sit relative to the boat's centre of buoyancy. The result: a smaller paddler reaches the same leverage and edge control that a taller paddler gets from the standard hull - without constant adjustments or a deep, uncomfortable reach for the footbrace.

Stability That Doesn't Depend on Body Weight

Secondary stability - how the hull feels when it is heeled onto its chine - is designed into the cross-section, not into the paddler's weight. Stellar tuned the LV hull's chines and rocker so that a lighter paddler still feels a solid, predictable platform in rough conditions. This is the specification that matters most to clubs outfitting women's programs, junior squads and smaller-statured paddlers.

Spec Comparison: Standard S16 vs. S16 LV

STANDARD S16 G3
  • Built for the Full Adult Range
  • 4.92 m × 56.9 cm - cockpit 89 cm
  • The everyday touring reference. Wider beam and taller deck suit the 1.5–1.96 m paddler span. Choose this as your volume entry model for general retail and rental.
S16 LV - THIS HULL
  • Built for the 1.5–1.87 m Paddler
  • 4.80 m × 55.6 cm - cockpit 83.5 cm
  • Shorter cockpit, lower volume deck, 140 kg rating. The specialist fit hull: women's fleets, junior programs, lighter paddlers and the "between sizes" customer who currently has no proper option.

Standard Equipment (Included on Every Build)

  • Kayak rudder - standard fitment, not an option
  • Three hatches + two bulkheads: 68 L bow, 107 L stern, plus a bow deck pod
  • Bottle-holder seat pad & SmartTrack footbrace: reach-friendly for smaller paddlers
  • Paddle recess with larger lock bar: clean, snag-free deck when the paddle is stowed
  • Cut-away side & stern handle: comfortable carry to and from the water

FAQ

Q: What does "low volume" actually mean on this kayak?

A: Low volume refers to the deck height and internal displacement of the hull, not the storage. The S16 LV carries a shorter cockpit (83.5 cm), a lower-profile deck and a narrower beam (55.6 cm) so a lighter, shorter paddler sits deeper into the boat, reaches the footbrace comfortably and gets proper leverage on the hull. It is a fit specification - for the 1.5–1.87 m paddler - while keeping 175 L of hatch storage for real trips.

Q: S16 LV or S16 G3 - how do we decide for our fleet?

A: Think of the G3 as your general-purpose hull (1.5–1.96 m paddler range, wider beam) and the LV as the specialist fit hull (1.5–1.87 m, shorter cockpit). Most of our fleet customers buy a mix: G3s as the core rental model, LVs for women's programs, junior squads and smaller-statured paddlers who otherwise get handed a boat that fights them. We can map the split for you in step 2 of the ordering process.

Q: Why is this a better touring boat than the S15 LV it replaces?

A: Stellar kept the compact, small-paddler fit of the S15 LV but redesigned the hull for better directional and secondary stability, and added carrying capacity - 68 L bow and 107 L stern hatches. The net result: the same "fits me" feel, plus room for full multi-day camping gear and a steadier platform in rough conditions. That is the difference between a day boat and a genuine touring kayak.

Q: Do bright custom colors really add weight? How much?

A: Yes - and we tell you before quoting. Bright gelcoat shades like RAL 2004 orange and RAL 1018 yellow need additional coats to reach full saturation, typically adding 100–200 g per hull. For a 15 kg boat that is negligible in use, but we disclose it because honest weight data is part of how we build trust with fleet buyers. Standard shades like red, blue, green and black add nothing.

Q: Which laminate should a rental fleet spec for the LV?

A: Advantage. The infused fiberglass/Soric® build resists punctures from shallow landings and cart abuse, repairs cleanly, and gives the best price-to-weight ratio in the line. If your LV fleet serves race-inclined customers as well, add a couple of Excel hulls - same fit, race-level stiffness - and let the heavier use boats take the daily beatings.

Q: Can we put our own brand on the S16 LV under an OEM program?

A: Yes. We match gelcoat to your RAL reference, apply logos and fleet numbers before curing, adjust seat and footbrace position for your average paddler size, and ship in your brand's packaging. Because the LV shares production tooling with the rest of our touring line, OEM lead times stay realistic, and we accept mixed-model containers so you can launch a full range - LV, standard S16, S18 - in one program.
