Product Overview

The Touring Hull That Meets Paddlers Where They Are

Stellar's third-generation 16-foot touring kayak - a stability-first redesign that widens the sport's front door without slowing the fast crowd down.

The S16 G3 is the widest-front-door hull in Stellar's touring line.

Building on two generations of proven geometry, Stellar added half an inch of beam for a noticeably calmer platform, then deepened the keel with more concavity so the hull tracks straight even when the rudder stays up. The result is a 4.92 m touring kayak that forgives a beginner's paddle stroke yet still answers when an experienced paddler leans into it.

Slender bow and stern sections preserve the efficiency the S16 is known for - the stability gain did not come at the cost of glide. Ergonomic rubber carry handles make the walk to the water and the portage between lakes genuinely more comfortable, a detail trip paddlers notice daily.

With a 156 kg load rating and a cockpit that fits the full 1.5–1.96 m paddler range, it is the natural workhorse model for clubs, rental fleets and retail brands building their first carbon fiber kayak line - and it is available wholesale, or as a customized OEM program from our factory.

What Changed in the Third Generation

Stability, Recalculated

The defining G3 change: +0.5" / 1 cm of beam width versus the second generation. Combined with a deeper keel and increased concavity, the hull now resists rolling and weathercocking without constant rudder corrections. New paddlers stay in their comfort zone; loaded expedition paddlers keep a straighter course with less effort.

Efficiency, Preserved

Wider hulls usually mean slower hulls. Stellar avoided the trade-off by tapering the bow and stern, keeping the waterline entry fine while the mid-section carries the stability. The S16 G3 keeps its touring glide while gaining the calm that first-time buyers feel immediately.

Comfort on the Water and Off

  • Bow deck pod + bow hatch + stern hatch: organized storage for day trips to multi-day tours
  • Over-stern steering: clean deck, reduced snag points, easy rudder deployment
  • Thigh braces: precise edge control transfers power from hips to hull
  • Ergonomic rubber carry handles: comfortable car-topping and portage
  • Full cockpit fit range: 44 cm × 89 cm opening suits the 1.5–1.96 m paddler span

FAQ

Q: S16 G3 or S18 G2 - which should our market stock first?

A: The S16 G3 trades two feet of length for a wider, calmer platform - a better first carbon fiber kayak and a stronger rental candidate. The S18 G2 is longer, faster and suits experienced touring paddlers. Many importers stock both: S16 for the volume entry segment, S18 for the performance customer.

Q: What does the widened beam actually change on the water?

A: The extra 1 cm of beam increases initial stability - the boat feels noticeably steadier when a new paddler sits in and starts stroking. Combined with the deepened keel, it also reduces the tendency to wander, so less rudder input is needed to hold a course. For rental and beginner use, this is the difference between a confident first session and a nervous one.

Q: How is the G3 different from the previous S16 generation?

A: Three changes define it: the beam was widened 0.5 inch / 1 cm, the keel was deepened, and the keel gained more concavity. The slender bow and stern were retained to protect efficiency. Net effect: a wider appeal across ability levels without giving up the hull's touring glide.

Q: What is the difference between the Nomex® and Soric® core builds?

A: Alpha Woven and Excel use Nomex® honeycomb core - maximum stiffness-to-weight, the choice for buyers who weigh every gram. Advantage uses Soric® core in an infused fiberglass build: slightly heavier, but tougher against punctures and significantly more economical. Multi-Sport sits in the middle with a carbon/Kevlar® single skin. We will match the build to your market's price point.

Q: Which layup do you recommend for a rental or club fleet?

A: The Advantage build. It combines the best price-to-weight ratio in the line with real puncture resistance, and its gelcoat finish is straightforward to repair. Fleets in our territories typically pair Advantage rental units with a few Excel or Multi-Sport boats for guides and stronger members.

Q: Can we brand the S16 G3 with our club or company colors?

A: Yes. We match gelcoat to your brand's RAL reference or provide a physical color chip for approval. Logos, fleet numbers and custom graphics can be applied before curing. Bright shades such as yellow and orange need additional coats - a small weight addition we will flag in your quotation.
