The Same Intrepid DNA, Re-Balanced for a Different Body
The Intrepid LV is the low-volume branch of the Stellar touring family - a British-style sea kayak with a hint of Greenland, whose waterlines, cockpit and load capacity were re-drawn around paddlers from 1.5 m to 1.87 m.
OPTIMIZED COCKPIT5.14 m - hard chines · rocker · modified waterlinesSide profile placeholder - replace with SILV hull photo

Most expedition hulls are drawn for a 1.85 m paddler with long legs. The SILV starts from the opposite question: how much boat does a 1.6 m paddler actually need? The answer is a hull that keeps the Intrepid's hard chines and rocker for surf, racing and rock gardens, then shortens the waterline, narrows the beam and re-profiles the cockpit so a smaller frame sits snug, reaches the braces and paddles efficiently all day.
Under the deck, nothing is scaled down: three sealed hatches, a retractable Kajak-sport skeg, full deck rigging and an integrated rudder tube mean the LV is every bit the multi-day expedition boat - just sized for the bodies most fleets actually teach, rent and sell to.
We supply the SILV to buyers across Asia and South America as an authorized Stellar agent - and, as a carbon fiber kayak manufacturer ourselves, we can customize the cockpit, laminate and deck layout around your paddler profile before the first unit leaves the factory.

Volume Engineering
Four Decisions That Re-Size a Hull Without Diluting It
The SILV is not a shorter SI18 with a sticker on it. Each dimension was re-balanced against a specific paddler profile - here is the engineering logic behind the low-volume layout.
DECISION 01 - LENGTH
Modified waterlines, drawn shorter
At 16'10" (5.14 m) with reworked waterlines, the LV trades a little top-end glide for a hull that a lighter paddler can actually accelerate and edge. The defined keel stays - so tracking over long crossings remains honest, without demanding the leg strength of a taller paddler.
DECISION 02 - COCKPIT
The cockpit, seat and thigh braces are the design brief
The cockpit opening, molded seat, thigh braces and Smart Track footbrace are all proportioned for a 5'–6'2" range. The result is contact - knees against the braces, feet flat on the track - which is what turns a "boat that fits" into a boat that performs.
DECISION 03 - BEAM
53.2 cm beam, within reach
Narrowing the beam brings the water closer to a smaller paddler's blade. Less reaching, cleaner strokes, and a lower perceived width for paddlers who feel stretched on a standard 18-foot deck.
DECISION 04 - STORAGE
Full expedition capacity, re-distributed
50.5 L bow and 109 L stern compartments keep multi-day capability intact, while the lighter hull weight (from 17.3 kg in Multi-Sport) means a smaller paddler can car-top and portage a loaded boat without a crew.

What "low volume" means in practice
- Cockpit re-profiled for smaller & mid-size paddlers - knee and thigh contact without over-reach
- Narrower beam brings the stroke plane closer to the paddle blade
- Same sealed bulkheads, skeg and deck rigging as the full-size Intrepid
- Integrated rudder tube lets paddlers add a rudder later without drilling
Why fleet buyers order the LV beside the SI18
A mixed fleet covers the whole paddler-height spectrum: the SI18 for taller members and the LV for the rest - same hull family, same handling character, so skill drills and coaching language carry across both models.
Build Options
Four Builds - Match the Laminate to the Paddler
Because the LV is lighter and lower to the water, the laminate decision matters more: it decides how easily a smaller paddler lifts, loads and car-tops the boat. We manufacture all four schedules in-house on this hull.
Excel
40.3 lbs / 18.3 kg
Heat-cured epoxy Kevlar® and glass over Nomex® honeycomb - stiff, light and more economical than Alpha. Ideal for performance-focused paddlers on a tighter fleet budget.
Best for: performance programs, frequent car-topping
01
Multi-Sport
38.1 lbs / 17.3 kg
Single-layer carbon & Kevlar® hull laminate under clear gelcoat, mated to an Advantage deck - engineered to flex and shrug off contact, rated for Class I–II moving water and rocky landings.
Best for: school fleets, rock-garden guiding, rentals
02
Advantage
40.3 lbs / 18.3 kg
Heat-cured infused epoxy glass with Soric® core - the puncture-resistant workhorse with the lowest lifetime repair cost, and the most budget-friendly entry to the carbon hull family.
Best for: high-utilization rental and club fleets
03
Alpha
Ultra-light - weight quoted on request
Woven Toray 3k carbon fiber over Nomex® honeycomb, clear-coated and heat-cured - the stiffest, lightest build in the range and the easiest to lift off a car roof. The ultimate paddling machine for lighter bodies.
Best for: lightweight paddlers who lift solo

OEM / ODM Service
Cockpit-First Customization - We Engineer the Fit Before We Build the Boat
The SILV's selling point is fit, and fit is exactly what we customize. Our OEM/ODM scope on this hull focuses on the cockpit, the deck and the control layout - the surfaces a paddler actually touches.
Cockpit Fit Engineering
Seat contour, thigh-brace height and footbrace range can be tuned for your paddler groups - school girls, junior programs, or smaller adult men and women. We build a mock-up seat for sign-off before the series starts.
Rudder Integration
The LV ships with a pre-routed rudder tube. Under ODM scope we can install the complete rudder system with foot pedals at the factory, or leave the tube capped for paddlers who add a rudder later - your call per unit.
Deck Fit-Out & Rigging
Custom bungee patterns, deck-line runs, compass recesses, pump stowage and paddle-park placements - configured for your instructors' teaching sequence and installed before packing.
Fleet Mix & Brand Program
Mix SILV and SI18 units in one container to cover your full paddler-height range, apply your brand colors and logo in-mold, and standardize one spare-parts list across both models.
We work with carbon fiber boat and kayak brands, schools and rental operators across Asia and South America - your build partner from cockpit drawing to container, not just a supplier of finished boats.
FAQ
Q: How is the Intrepid LV (SILV) different from the standard SI18 Intrepid?
A: The LV is the low-volume interpretation of the same hull family: shorter at 5.14 m, slightly narrower at 53.2 cm, with a re-profiled cockpit and a 110 kg load rating. It keeps the Intrepid's hard chines, rocker and retractable skeg, so the handling character is the same - but the boat now fits paddlers from 1.5 m to 1.87 m instead of asking them to stretch.
Q: Which paddlers is the SILV really built for?
A: Smaller to mid-size paddlers - typically women, juniors, and men under roughly 1.8 m who find a standard 18-foot cockpit roomy to the point of losing contact with the braces. The shorter cockpit, contoured seat and narrower beam turn that loose fit into a connected, responsive seating position.
Q: What does the Alpha laminate add over the other builds?
A: Alpha uses woven Toray 3k carbon fiber over a Nomex® honeycomb core with a clear finish and heat-cured epoxy - the stiffest and lightest schedule we build on this hull. For a smaller paddler it makes the difference between lifting a boat comfortably and needing help. Because it is a premium build, its weight and price are confirmed at quotation against your volume.
Q: The SILV has an "integrated rudder tube" - does that mean it comes with a rudder?
A: No - the rudder tube is pre-routed inside the hull at the factory, so a rudder can be added later without cutting into the laminate. The standard fit is the retractable Kajak-sport skeg, which most British-style paddlers prefer for trimming. Under our ODM service we can install the complete rudder system with pedals before shipping, or leave the tube capped for field installation.
Q: Can a school or rental fleet order SILV units with different laminates in one batch?
A: Yes - and it is a common pattern. Rental units in Advantage, guiding boats in Multi-Sport, instructor boats in Alpha or Excel - all in the same container, same hull, same handling. We log each unit's laminate and serial number so your maintenance records stay clean across the mixed batch.
Q: How do we decide between the SILV and the S16 LV for our program?
A: Both serve smaller to mid-size paddlers, but they come from different hull philosophies: the SILV carries the Intrepid's hard-chine, British-style character with expedition storage, while the S16 LV is the shorter, more stable touring interpretation with a softer all-round feel. Tell us your paddler-height distribution, water conditions and trip profile - we will recommend the split, and we can mix both models in one order.
