The Concept

Two Paddlers, One Fine Bow

The Apex K2 is an ICF Sprint Kayak for pairs. Its hull attacks drag from both ends: a really fine bow reduces form drag at the entry, and a low wetted surface area runs across the whole hull to keep friction down.

Each cockpit carries a 3-point footbrace for a powerful leg drive, and the stiffness-first composite construction transfers two paddlers' combined power into speed - the difference between good and medals on the platform.

FAQ

Q: What is the Apex K2?

A: It's Stellar's ICF Sprint Kayak for two paddlers - the K2 class double, with a fine bow and low wetted surface built to reduce drag for flatwater sprint racing.

Q: K2 vs K1 - how do crews choose between them?

A: K1 is the solo class and K2 the double class; both race under ICF sprint rules. Programs typically build a K1 fleet first for individual events and add K2s for pair events such as the 500 m - the K2 also trains the crew work that improves every paddler's timing.

Q: What's the combined weight capacity?

A: Stellar rates the K2 at 375 lb / 170 kg for the two-paddler crew - comfortably covering most sprint pair combinations at full race trim.

Q: How does the fine bow help?

A: A fine entry reduces form drag - the pressure resistance created as the hull pushes water aside. Combined with low wetted surface across the hull, the K2 keeps two paddlers' speed with less wasted energy.

Q: Does synchronization matter in a K2?

A: Yes - clean, matched timing is what makes a double fast. The fine-bow hull responds immediately to paddle rhythm, so crews that paddle in sync feel the payoff in every stroke; it's also why coaches use K2s to build timing.

Q: Can two different-weight paddlers race it?

A: Yes, as long as the combined crew weight stays within the 375 lb / 170 kg rating. Stellar's fine-bow design and 3-point footbraces let each paddler trim their position and foot brace for a balanced boat.

Q: Which laminate should we choose for our K2?

A: Alpha for the lightest, stiffest double at 35.3 lb; Excel for added impact strength at 37.5 lb; Multi-Sport for a durable build with rudder and bailer (39.7 lb); Advantage for maximum toughness and the best value at 39.7 lb.

Q: Who is the Apex K2 built for?

A: Sprint pairs racing ICF K2 events, club and national crews building a K2 program, and two paddlers who want a fast, stable double to race together.
